Missouri's average retail gas price rose 8.9 cents during the past week to $3.39 per gallon yesterday.
Yesterday's average was up 30.3 cents from a month ago but down 14.2 cents from a year ago, according to a news release from GasBuddy.com, which collects data from some 4,940 gas outlets in Missouri.
The U.S. average, which increased 3.4 cents during the past week to $3.47 per gallon yesterday, rose 18.5 cents during the past month but fell 19.1 cents during the past year.
"As refinery maintenance season is now in its prime, and will be for several weeks, motorists could see additional volatility at the pump should issues or unexpected problems arise with this period of maintenance," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst, in the release. "There tend to be glitches and issues restarting these plants, and the progressive switchover to various blends of gasoline complicates matters further.
"Then, as refineries get back on line, the volatility will ebb, and prices will slow their climb - but all of that light at the end of the tunnel remains several weeks away."
This morning, Missouri ranked 19th on
GasBuddy's list of the lowest gas price averages in the nation. South Carolina topped the list with an average of $3.17 per gallon, and Hawaii bottomed out the list at $4.11 per gallon.
Missouri's lowest price this morning was $3.13 per gallon at a filling station in New Madrid. At $3.99 per gallon, a high price was recorded at a Ladue station, according to GasBuddy's MissouriGasPrices.com.
In Springfield, the Sam's Club locations at 745 W. El Camino Alto Drive and 3660 E. Sunshine St. were selling gas for $3.22 per gallon, while other stations had prices ranging from $3.32 per gallon to $3.39 per gallon.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $102.58 per barrel as of 9:18 a.m. Light sweet crude oil futures for April were trading at $101.06 per barrel on the
