Project description: Springfield Public Schools’ Reed Academy will have a new facility constructed in its original site, preserving a century-long neighborhood connection, according to project officials. The design uses salvaged materials, with the original auditorium’s wood flooring being repurposed for ceiling features and stone relief sculptures to be relocated to the new commons area. The building includes a standard SPS middle school program and a fine arts academy, where a multipurpose auditorium will also serve as a safe room. The project architect is Sapp Design Associates Architects Inc., and engineers are Olsson Inc., civil and landscape; Toth and Associates Inc., structural; and Interpres Building Solutions LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
