American Red Cross Blood Services has moved its donor center to 313-B E. Battlefield in the Battlefield Plaza. The center continued in its former location at 1211 S. Glenstone until Sept. 1 and opened at the new site Sept. 2.
"We believe our new location will provide additional opportunities for us and should be convenient for our donors," said David Chumley, chief executive officer for the Red Cross Blood Services Region, in a release from the Red Cross. Both whole blood and apheresis products will be collected at the new site.
The national organization of the American Red Cross Blood Services celebrated its 50th anniversary in May. The organization has operated continuously in the Springfield area since 1971.
"Fiscal year 1997-1998 was a very successful year for our region. Collections continue to increase and we are seeing more and more first-time donors," Chumley said in the release.
The Red Cross building at 1211 S. Glenstone was recently purchased by the Assemblies of God Division of Foreign Ministries. That group plans to renovate the five-floor building for the Foreign Distance Education School, which will be moved from Irving, Texas.[[In-content Ad]]
