Recycling center now taking storm debris

Posted online
The city of Springfield’s Yardwaste Recycling Center is now accepting brush and limbs, as it returns to usual operations that were suspended after the January ice storm.

Yardwaste includes grass clippings, leaves, gumballs, shrub trimmings, brush and limbs. Limbs must be cut in maximum 4-foot lengths and must be less than 6 inches in diameter.

Longer limbs can be taken to the temporary brush disposal site near the Springfield Municipal Landfill at no charge through March 31. Root balls and stumps can be taken to the landfill at the usual charge of $27.50 per ton, with a $15 per vehicle minimum.

The Yardwaste Recycling Center is open 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday. The temporary brush disposal site near the landfill is open 7 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday– Friday and 7 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday.

More information is available through the city’s recycling hotline, (417) 864-1904, or the storm debris hotline, (417) 864-1400.
