Recall expanded for dog food after pets die

Midwestern Pet Foods Inc. expanded its recall of some of its dog food after dozens of pets have been reported dead.

The Food and Drug Administration said in a statement that it's “aware of more than 70 dogs that have died and more than 80 that are sick after eating Sportmix pet food.”

Evansville, Indiana-based Midwestern Pet Foods first announced the voluntary recall on Dec. 30.
