Rand Paul announces presidential run

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky officially declared himself a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday.

“The Washington machine that gobbles up our freedoms and invades every nook and cranny of our lives must be stopped,” Paul told an audience at the Galt House hotel in Louisville, Ky. “I want to be part of a return to prosperity.”

Paul, 52, is the second Republican to announce his bid for the 2016 campaign. He'll face his colleague in the Senate, Ted Cruz of Texas.
