Railroad company to invest $200M in Missouri

Fort Worth, Texas-based BNSF Railway Co. plans to invest $200 million in the Show-Me State on track maintenance and expansion projects this year, the St. Louis Business Journal reports.

Thus far in 2013, BNSF has hired 123 of the 220 employees it wants to add to its Missouri operations, according to a company spokesman. Last year, BNSF employed 3,566 in Missouri and had a payroll of nearly $250 million.

The improvements are part of the company’s plans to spend $4.3 billion on capital improvement across 28 states and Canada, according to the business journal. In Missouri, its work this year includes more than 3,500 miles of track surfacing and undercutting work, signal upgrades and replacing nearly 200 miles of rail and 390,000 ties.
