Local radio airwaves are shifting with multiple announcements in recent days.
Two new stations have launched, and one existing station has moved to a new frequency, according to separate news releases from Mid-West Family Broadcasting and Zimmer Midwest Communication Inc.
Mid-West Family
The new station from Mid-West Family Broadcasting is 102.1 The Won on the 102.1 FM frequency. A sports radio station, 102.1 The Won offers games, shows and sports programming.
Starting Oct. 14, 102.1 The Won took over the frequency previously held by Mid-West Family Broadcasting's Q102 rock station, according to a news release. The company announced last week that Q102 had become Q92.9, taking over the 92.9 FM frequency that had previously been 92.9 The Beat, a top hits station.
The new sports format for 102.1 The Won includes the move of St. Louis Cardinals games from 105.1 The Bull. Kansas City Chiefs games will remain on 104.7 The Cave.
"With the success we've had as the radio home of the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals, we know there’s a huge market for sports on the radio here in the Ozarks," said Brian Tyndall, general manager of Mid-West Family Broadcasting, in the release. "With the legalization of sports gambling taking effect soon, we expect even more listeners to tune in for live updates and expert analysis."
The newly announced Q92.9, according to a separate release, allows Mid-West Family Broadcasting to use a 50,000-watt signal to broadcast the rock station that is 10 times stronger than that of its previous home.
"On the new 92.9 dial position, Q will now be heard in over a dozen more Ozarks counties," Tyndall said in the release.
Zimmer
In a separate news release issued this morning, Zimmer Midwest Communication Inc. announced the launch of 93.7 The Stage on KZMO 93.7 FM.
Officials say 93.7 The Stage brings an "energetic country music format to greater Springfield."
“With the launch of 93.7 The Stage, Zimmer Midwest Communications is thrilled to add a new country voice to the Springfield radio landscape,” said Chris Kennedy, program director of Zimmer Midwest Communications, in the release. “We look forward to becoming the go-to station for new country fans and strengthening our connection to listeners in the Ozarks.”
According to RadioInsight.com, 93.7 The Stage’s programming was previously simulcast on 99.9 FM along with sports.
