Race Brothers opened its Springfield store in 1971 and its Carthage store in 1974.
President Craig DeForest and Vice President Roger DeForest bought a vacant restaurant/bowling alley/bar on 8.6 acres in December for $825,000 from First State Bank. Since then, they have been involved with massive renovations, including new flooring, electrical and heating.
“We had to do a total demolition, pretty much,” Craig DeForest said of the $500,000 renovation project. “The only thing that’s original when we’re done is the roof and three walls.”
