The Quapaw Nation of Oklahoma filed suit against former Chairperson John Berry.
In the suit, Quapaw officials accuse Berrey of abuse of office, conspiracy and embezzlement. Officials with the tribe said he "consistently abused his authority ... by using tribal funds and assets for his own personal benefit and the benefit of those around him."
The tribe's chairperson for nearly 20 years, Berrey denied wrongdoing.
