Putting People First

Posted online

At premier Property & Casualty software and services provider Next Level Solutions, creating a culture focused on people was a very intentional decision. “We spend around 25% of our time at work, so it’s important to create an environment where our team feels comfortable, valued and challenged,” said President and CEO Christopher Sawyer. “We open the doors for our people to work together both in and out of the office.”

Flexibility and growth
Friendly interaction was engrained in early leadership teams and has allowed the culture at NLS to thrive, even as it’s grown from 25 to more than 300 employees. NLS offers the flexibility needed for people to feel truly cared about. When fuel prices significantly increased this year, employees were offered an extra work-from-home day to help counter the rising costs. Freedom to grow and advance in careers is also paramount to NLS. Individual career growth is as important to the organization as it is to those wanting to reach their own goals.

Community involvement
Within the NLS mission statement it is stated “We strive to let our good work transcend the organization and create a positive influence for those around us.” Community involvement is a cornerstone of NLS, and it’s practiced and promoted across the company. NLS offices in Springfield, MO, Columbia SC, San Juan PR, and Tegucigalpa, Honduras, are involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, support for local schools and children’s charities, and last year raised over $15,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Perks
Health benefits start the first month after hire date and PTO accrual begins on day one. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of office perks like ping-pong tournaments, walking groups, and a casual dress code. On any given day you might be greeted by a furry friend at your desk because someone brought their dog to work or find a local food truck in the parking lot.
Employees get $600 per year for fitness reimbursement, covering things like gym memberships, fitness equipment, yoga mats, running shoes and much more.
NLS also uses Bonusly, a peer-to-peer recognition and reward system that offers hundreds of places to cash in points given to you by the people who see your good work and reward you with praise and incentives.
“NLS is full of the most intelligent, creative, competitive, and energetic people you will ever get the pleasure of working alongside,” said Sawyer. “We value authenticity, and our employees feel this is a safe place where they can be their true selves.”
