Purdue Pharma and its Sackler family owners have entered a new $7.4 billion opioid settlement with 15 states.
Other states will be asked to sign on to the settlement, which requires bankruptcy judge approval.
A previous settlement of up to $6 billion was blocked nearly seven months ago by the U.S. Supreme Court, with justices saying the Sacklers were not entitled to legal protections under bankruptcy since they didn't make individual filings. The latest settlement does not include those legal protections.
