Puerto Rico's governor resigns

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló announced his resignation yesterday after nearly two weeks of protests.

Rosselló plans to resign on Aug. 2.

Rosselló came under fire after text chats were released in which he and other members of his administration mocked gay people, women and hurricane victims.

Carlos Méndez Núñez, the president of Puerto Rico’s House of Representatives, also commissioned an investigation into Rosselló. The investigation found Rosselló committed four serious offenses and one misdemeanor, including the use of public resources for partisan purposes.
