Ozark Mountain Interiors closed its doors in late 2004 amid allegations of unfair labor practices and two failed attempts to sell the business, according to a July 2004 story in Springfield Business Journal.
Officials with the company, which had changed from a national retail infill firm to a commercial millwork firm at the time of its closing, also cited a slowdown in business as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The city of Springfield bought the building at auction, said Morris Dock, of MoDoCo, general contractor for the renovations project. Pellham Phillips did the architecture and mechanical engineering for the project.
“We’re putting in mezzanines, second floor, all renovated inside,” Dock said.
The building will provide offices and shop areas for various Public Works projects, Dock said. “They’ll be doing work inside for items that need to be out in the field around town,” he added.
