The public meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 in the Dogwood Room at the Missouri Career Center, 1514 S. Glenstone Ave., in the Glen Isle shopping center.
City staff will share conclusions made after conducting four public meetings last fall on the issue. Topics of discussion included placement of the containers, storage of hazardous materials, time restrictions, a registration process, screening containers from adjacent properties, exceptions for situations such as inventory and construction, and enforcement.
The meetings were targeted to those who would be affected most by the ordinance, including storage container businesses, retail business owners and users, and manufacturing and industrial users.
Information gathered during the process is being used to draft a new ordinance on the subject. The initial revised ordinance that would require permits for all on-site storage trailers and would limit the number allowed was tabled last year, and an administrative delay is in effect for the current ordinance.
The city plans to release a draft ordinance within a short period after the meeting. It would then be forwarded to the City Council Community Involvement Committee for review before recommending whether to sent it to the Planning and Zoning Commission and then to council for consideration. Public hearings would take place at both commission and council meetings.[[In-content Ad]]
