Public invited to review square perimeter’s redesign

Posted online
An open house will be held Thursday to allow the public to review and comment on the redesign plans for Park Central Square’s outer perimeter.

The open house will be 5–7 p.m. at Park Central Square Branch Library, on the southwest corner of the square, and will be a drop-in event, as no formal presentation is planned. Staff members from the city, Urban Districts Alliance and designer Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Inc. will be on hand.

Planned changes to the outer square include improved and extended sidewalks, new lighting and improved aesthetics by removing the canopy over the northeast corner.

The outer-square renovations initially were Phase II of the overall square redesign, but Phase I – inner-square renovations – was put on hold after that part of the square was deemed eligible for historic designation.

After the open house, the square’s design plans also can be reviewed online and comments can be submitted July 18–21 at the city’s Web site, www.springfieldmo.gov.
