The study will be presented 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Church on the Rock, 3935 W. Sunshine St.
As the Springfield metropolitan area expands, major growth is expected along the east-west corridor, particularly because it serves as a major link between Springfield and Republic and between the region and the national highway network, according to the study.
The study’s goals are to promote transportation mobility, mixed-use developments and higher quality development.
In the 1,178 acres included in the study, planners are looking to create a balance between jobs and housing, compact development that allows for efficient land and resource use, and mixed-use neighborhoods and activity centers that encourage walking and biking. Design features include new access roads, a minimized number of traffic lights and clustering of nonresidential uses.
The study is a result of several public meetings, a design preference study and several months of work by Springfield, Greene County, Republic, Missouri Department of Transportation and City Utilities officials, according to a news release. After tonight’s meeting, the study will go to each jurisdiction’s governing body for approval.
The complete study can be downloaded at the city of Springfield’s Web site, www.springfieldmo.gov.[[In-content Ad]]
