Prosecutors charge suspect in three pharmacy robberies

Posted online
Greene County prosecutors have charged a man suspected of robbing three Springfield pharmacies in the last two months.

Austin Ball has been charged with first-degree robbery for the Aug. 10 robbery of Dan’s Pharmacy, 2625 N. Kansas Expressway, according to a police news release. Charges are expected to be filed against Ball in the near future for the Sept. 14 robbery of Super D Pharmacy, 3050 S. National, and, most recently, the Sept. 29 robbery of Lawrence Drug store, 1454 E. Republic, according to the release.

In Friday’s robbery, Ball allegedly displayed a handgun at Lawrence Drug and took an undisclosed amount of prescription medication before fleeing in a pharmacy-owned vehicle. He was arrested a short time later after police located him near Golden and Walnut Lawn; police identified themselves and fired two defense shots when they believed the suspect was reaching for a gun. Ball was not injured.[[In-content Ad]]
