CanBrands International broke ground for its Partnership Industrial Center facility May 1. The construction team on the $3 million project the Canada-based company's first U.S. plant includes Morelock-Ross Builders and Wehr, Wehr, Johnson and Bridgeforth. CanBrands, which manufactures cat litter from recycled paper products, will employ about 40 workers when the facility is complete. The 30,000-square-foot plant is slated to be finished in September, and CanBrands should be up and running in October.

Under construction beside the existing Republic branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library District – which remains in operation throughout the project – is a new building that will double the size of the original, according to library officials.
