Architects Eric McCune, Adrian Rhoads and Brian Kubik with Sapp Design Associates Architects PC provided the design services for this project, and Masonry Structures Inc. is the general contractor.
The project has an approximate construction cost of $4 million and it is slated for completion in the summer of this year.
The city of Republic has committed to upgrading and improving existing park facilities, and providing new recreational and fitness facilities to meet the needs and demands of the growing Republic community.
The new building is a 44,000-square-foot structure with a gymnasium that has two full-size basketball courts with spectator seating and a jogging track on the second floor. Also included in the project is a 10,000-square-foot, 24-hour fitness center to be operated by CoxHealth. Other amenities are locker rooms, parks administrative offices, multiple community rooms and a caf.
The design challenge was to provide a facility that works within the concept of the park master plan and with existing park structures and future expansion. The building itself attempts to integrate with the park setting by allowing indoor spaces to flow into covered terraces and garden spaces. The building is divided into athletic, fitness and community spaces.
