Construction on this 242,614-square-foot high school is slated for completion later this year. Sam A. Winn & Associates Architects PC is the architect and KCI Construction is the general contractor. The $20 million school facility will accommodate 1,800 students, but core growth areas the media center, commons area and food service are designed for future growth to accommodate 2,000. The commons area offers a dramatic entrance to the new high school with a grand stair hall, a partially vaulted ceiling and a skylight.
In addition to more than 70 classrooms with six science labs, a foreign language lab and business labs, this facility will include a 20,000-square-foot auditorium with seating for 8,752 spectators, a cafeteria to seat more than 600, with an outdoor dining patio, administrative suites on each of the three levels, an 11,300-square-foot media center with 500 linear feet of book shelving, two gymnasiums, a mezzanine above the main gym with a synthetic walking track, and a fine arts wing for band and vocal music, drama and four art classrooms.
Future expansion is planned to include additional classrooms for student growth, a natatorium and a planetarium.
