Butler Rosenbury & Partners Inc. is the structural engineer and the architect for CoxHealth's expansion. Wirt Construction Co. Inc. is the general contractor, and the mechanical engineer is Ross & Baruzzini. CoxHealth is funding the work on this project, which has an estimated cost of $14.5 million. The project will expand an existing 27,000-square-foot, two-story, general office building into an 81,000-square-foot, four-story facility. The building will expand Cox's south campus to the east and create a major outpatient facility for diagnostic imaging and endoscopy. The building was originally designed to expand to six stories, but the floor plates were too small for efficiency. Additionally, the floor-to-floor heights were too short given the mechanical and electrical equipment needs. The design has evolved into a building with a much larger ground floor element. The outpatient radiology department will have room for four MRI machines, PET/CT scan, CT and nuclear imaging, standard chest and full-body radiography fluoroscopy, ultrasound and related imaging systems. The outpatient endoscopy suite includes eight procedure rooms and 39 pre- and post-holding suites.
