Estimated cost: $697.1 million

A team of 600 on-site workers is installing exterior siding and preparing to move work indoors at the City Utilities Southwest Power Station Unit 2. The $697.1 million project, financed through 30-year bonds, is still on track for completion in late 2010, said Joel Alexander, communications manager. With 94,000 square feet, the 300-megawatt plant is intended to supplement CU's other area plants and will use emissions-reducing technologies including air-pollution and mercury controls. It also will use treated municipal wastewater for cooling, according to www.cityutilities.net. Construction began in 2006. Customers will begin paying back the bonds through a rate increase in October 2010.[[In-content Ad]]
