Procter & Gamble beats analysts' quarterly expectations

Procter & Gamble reported better-than-expected results for its fiscal first quarter.

Earnings per share came to $1.63, beating the estimate of $1.42 per share expected by analysts. Revenue of $19.3 billion topped the $18.4 billion projection.

Net income of $4.3 billion was up from $3.6 billion a year earlier as demand for the company's cleaning and laundry products rose.
