Investigators are closing their probe into former Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich's suicide after failing to find an explanation for why the Republican gubernatorial hopeful took his life, a suburban St. Louis detective told The Associated Press.
Investigators searched Schweich's work computers in St. Louis and Jefferson City but found no evidence of a scandal, extramarital affairs or a "whisper campaign" that Schweich privately stated was waged against him, claiming he was Jewish.
Schweich shot himself in February in his Clayton home.
