Pro sports leagues postpone games over Jacob Blake shooting

Posted online

Professional sports leagues have postponed games as players and officials protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Blake, a black man, was shot seven times in the back by police on Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee. In response, the Milwaukee Bucks called off their game against the Orlando Magic.

"Despite the overwhelming plea for change, there has been no action, so our focus today cannot be on basketball," Bucks officials said in a statement. "When we take the court and represent Milwaukee and Wisconsin, we are expected to play at a high level, give maximum effort and hold each other accountable.

"We hold ourselves to that standard, and in this moment, we are demanding the same from our lawmakers and law enforcement."

The NBA postponed three playoff games on Wednesday; the MLB called off three games; five MLS matches were postponed; and the United States Tennis Association, ATP and WTA paused play.
