Private equity firm nears $4.5B purchase of Petco

Private equity firm firm CVC Capital Partners and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board are nearing a deal to buy Petco Holdings, people familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires.

The deal could value the pet supply retailer at $4.5 billion.

Petco is currently owned by private equity firms TPG Inc. and Leonard Green & Partners.
