After more than a year closed, Price Cutter’s Commercial Street store is scheduled to reopen March 30.
The 20,000-square-foot grocery store, 712 W. Commercial St., closed in early February 2015 after Price Cutter opened a 54,000-square-foot store at 1831 W. Kearney St., the site of a former Dillons that Price Cutter purchased.
The Commercial Street building had been targeted as a location for Save-A-Lot, of which Price Cutter is a franchisee. Price Cutter spokesman Charlie Dunn said the decision was made so parent company Pyramid Foods would not operate two of the stores close to each other. Price Cutter operates a Save-A-Lot franchise at 1117 E. Commercial St.
In a news release, Price Cutter officials said improvements to the building include additions to its fresh produce, grocery and frozen meat areas. The store also would include a hot food bar and cold deli with prepared meals.
The former Ramey’s Supermarket operated on C-Street from 1980 through early last year. In the 1980s, Foods CEO Erick Taylor worked part time at the store while attending high school, according to the release.
“The neighbors were always friendly, and we are happy to bring Price Cutter back to this community,” said Taylor, who later went on the manage the store, in the release.
At 2843 E. Sunshine St., Pyramid Foods is renovating a former 50,000-square-foot Dillons into a new natural foods concept.
Taking shape on 3.5 acres just east of State Highway H/Glenstone Avenue in the area of Valley Water Mill Park are the Fulbright Heights Apartments – three 23,000-square-foot buildings with 24 units each for a total of 72 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
