Price Cutter to open in two former Dillons stores, close two Price Cutters

Posted online
Pyramid Foods late Tuesday afternoon confirmed Springfield News-Leader reporting that Price Cutter supermarket operations would move into two former Dillons store sites.

Price Cutter plans to open at 1831 W. Kearney St. and 1260 St. Louis St., where Price Cutter signage already has been applied to the onsite gas station. Pyramid Foods CEO Erick Taylor said in a statement the regional grocery chain would close stores at 712 W. Commercial St. and 1730 S. Campbell Ave.

"The recent acquisition of the Dillons properties allows us to reposition two of our older and smaller stores to more spacious locations to better serve our community of Springfield," Taylor said in the statement. "We appreciate our customers who have continued to shop at Price Cutter throughout the numerous changes in the market over the past years. It is because of our customers and hardworking employees we are able to continue to grow and provide better shopping experiences.

"By moving into larger locations, we are able to enhance our departments and offer more variety and services. With the growth of the company, we are able to negotiate better pricing for all our locations."

The News-Leader reported earlier in the day that Price Cutter was hiring for stores on Kearney and St. Louis streets, two of the four former Dillons properties recently acquired by Pyramid Foods.
