Movement at the recently closed Dillons supermarket at St. Louis Street and National Avenue hints at the intentions of new owner Price Cutter.
The gas station on the property now has Price Cutter Express signage, as first reported by
Springfield News-Leader. As of this morning, the large Dillons sign on the store itself has been stripped off, leaving a blank canvas.
Price Cutter President Erick Taylor and Executive Director of Real Estate Planning and Development Rob Marsh could not be reached for comment by deadline. The Greene County assessor’s website continues to list ownership of the 1260 St. Louis St. to Dillons, and no building permits for the location are on file with the city of Springfield.
Price Cutter penned a deal
late last year to acquire the real estate and equipment of the four Springfield Dillons, which closed to customers on Christmas Eve as the chain exited Springfield.
No new Price Cutter stores have been confirmed by company officials.
“We are currently assessing new store concepts, conducting market research and evaluating community needs,” Taylor said in a statement provided in November. “Our priority is to create what is most beneficial to our community, our customers and our employees.”
Terms of the deal for the properties - 1707 W. Battlefield Road, 1831 W. Kearney St., 1260 St. Louis St. and 2843 E. Sunshine St. - were not disclosed.
