In its 25th year, the Price Cutter Charity Championship raised a record amount for area charities.

During a news conference this morning at Highland Springs Country Club, officials announced the 2014 event brought in over $1 million, the most since the tournament began in 1990. The McQueary family presented the funding to 46 Ozarks children’s charities during an 11 a.m. ceremony at the country club.

"We look at it as an investment back into our community,” said Russ Marquart, president and CEO of Empire Bank, a 25-year sponsor of the tournament and one of 400 sponsors this year.

The Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper - a tournament on the PGA’s Web.com Tour - was held Aug. 7-10 at the Springfield country club.

Since its inception, the event has raised $11.9 million for charities, organizers said this morning.

Last year, the event raised $819,079, missing the previous record of $854,262 set in 2012. This year’s donation level is on par with tournament organizers’ goal of $1 million, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
