President to meet with top execs to probe malicious cyber activity

Posted online

Cybersecurity is the topic as President Joe Biden meets today with top executives from Apple, Amazon.com, Microsoft and Google’s parent Alphabet.

Attending are the CEOs of Apple, Tim Cook; Amazon.com, Andy Jassy; Microsoft, Satya Nadella; and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai.

Also attending, in addition to the tech executives, are the CEOs of Bank of America, Brian Moynihan; JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon; and IBM, Arvind Krishna.

Ransomware, such as the attack on Colonial Pipeline that temporarily but severely impacted gas availability for drivers in the Eastern U.S., will be just one aspect of a wide-ranging discussion. The meeting will attempt to address root causes of malicious cyber activity, such as needs to improve operational practices, grow the cybersecurity workforce and address critical infrastructure vulnerabilities.

The meeting takes place at a time when the president is targeting tech firms for antitrust measures.
