Preservation Springfield Nov. 8 presented its annual awards for 2001 at the historic Fulbright Water Treatment Facility. From left to right, architect Laura Jean Derrick, AIA, receives the Pioneer Award from Preservation Springfield President Bill Pierceall. Pierceall congratulates City Councilman Denny Whayne on receiving a Movers & Shakers Award. Pierceall winds up the evening by announcing that two of three homes Preservation Springfield saved from demolition near Reed Middle School are sold, providing funds to rehabilitate the third home. Other awards presented were the Roberts Flanders Lifetime Achievement Award to Julie March; the Century Award to Robert Flanders; the Home & Hearth Award to Jim Downing and Nancy Hackett; the Community Heritage Award to Mary Faucett; and Movers and Shakers awards to the Greene County Historic Preservation Society, City Utilities, Mediacom, Springfield Public Schools, City of Springfield, Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council .
