Aug. 25 Preservation Springfield lived up to its vow of "Preservation As Promised" when the nonprofit organization moved three homes from North Lyon Avenue, saving them from demolition related to the expansion of Reed Middle School. At top, a home from 2036 N. Lyon, built circa 1900-1930, begins its stately progress toward its new site at 1875 N. Main. An employee of Howard House Moving directs the driver of the trailer bearing the home. Two other homes also were moved. The house at 2017 N. Lyon, built circa 1885-1887, was moved to 1865 N. Jefferson. The house at 2027 N. Lyon, built circa 1900-1930, was moved to 1851 N. Main. At right, a City Utilities employee disconnects the power lines to allow the houses to pass.
