Empire District Electric Co. officials July 10 open the company’s upgraded Republic substation, 2333 E. Hines Road. The substation was first energized May 31 to handle increased customer demand for energy to meet summer cooling needs. The company said the $1.8 million substation and transmission upgrade is in response to current and future growth in Republic.
