More than 3,300 backers have pledged $36,000 and counting in the name of potato salad.
When Zach Danger Brown posted a Kickstarter campaign to make potato salad on July 4, his goal was $10 to cover supplies. Hours later the Internet found his little project and all things went viral.
The Columbus, Ohio-native posted stretch goals including two different potato salad recipes, mayonnaise from the organic section and a potato salad party with the entire Internet invited.
With all the makings of a satirical story from The Onion, news organizations nationwide have picked up on the joke gone viral.
The Huffington Post reports a man claiming to be Brown on Reddit expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support to make his dream come true, or whatever.
"Potato salad seems to unite people of all backgrounds and I think that's really wonderful," Reddit user ZTBrown said.
The
Kickstarter project currently has 25 days left.
