Porsche builds crossover to win over women

Porsche purists weren't nuts about the Cayenne SUV when it debuted in 2003, but it made money and won over new buyers for the German automaker. By 2011, one in two Porches sold was a Cayenne.
 
Now Porsche is offering the Macan, a smaller SUV crossover which Bloomberg Businessnews is predicting Porsche aficionados will "hate" because it's too small to be a utility vehicle but too big to drive well. If Porsche's biggest fans aren't expected to buy it, who is the target driver for the Macan, which starts at $49,900? Wealthy women, according to the report.
 
And although the report describes the Macan's development as a "journey from the Nurburgring test track to the Whole Foods parking lot," Porsche designers assure that regardless of the model, "you feel immediately, 'yes, this is a Porsche.' "
