The U.S. Senate yesterday confirmed Mike Pompeo as President Donald Trump's secretary of state.
Following a 57-42 vote in the affirmative, Pompeo was sworn in Thursday afternoon by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
Pompeo drew opposition from the left, but he gained the nod from Democratic Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Bill Nelson of Florida, Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Doug Jones of Alabama.
