Pollution from Chinese factories reaching Los Angeles

Smog originating from Chinese factories is known to drift across the Pacific Ocean and pollute the Los Angeles area, according to a new study published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Researchers found that emissions from factories in China add up to equal an extra day of unhealthy air per year for folks living in the Hollywood Hills, Bloomberg Businessweek reports.

The study found as much as one-fourth of the sulfate pollution on the West Coast comes from Chinese factories thousands of miles away.
