Plaza Towers under new ownership

The Plaza Towers office building has come under new ownership.

Springfield Property LLC bought the 10-story, 130,000-square-foot building, as well as the adjacent 35,000-square-foot Plaza Towers Center and Jimm's Steakhouse and Pub building, according to a news release. The properties are located on roughly 10 acres at the southwest corner of Glenstone Avenue and Sunshine Street.

The seller was the Sechler family, the owner of the properties for nearly 50 years. Wilhoit Properties Inc. agent Ken Schwab brokered the deal.

"During my 40-year professional real estate career, I have been fortunate to represent many property owners. I was particularly honored to represent the family of Errett Sechler Jr. and to have the opportunity to facilitate the transfer of ownership of such a Springfield landmark," Schwab said in the release.

Sechler, who died last year at age 98, bought Plaza Towers in 1973. He later developed the Plaza Towers Center and constructed what is now Jimm's Steakhouse. Owner Jimm Swafford will continue to operate the restaurant under a long-term lease arrangement, according to the release.

Greene County recorder data show the deal closed Sept. 25. Records indicate a $13.3 million deed of trust between Springfield Property and Old Missouri Bank related to the Plaza Towers properties.

Springfield Property plans to conduct exterior and interior renovations to the office building and retail center, according to the release.

Springfield Property is organized with the Missouri secretary of state's office by Marco Denis.
