Planning & Zoning Commission picks leaders

The Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission has selected its chairmen to serve during 2011.

The commission chose Shelby Lawhon, a claims representative with the Social Security Administration in Springfield, as its chairman and Matthew Edwards, project manager with Connelly Mechanical Inc., as its vice chairman, according to a city news release.

Lawhon also previously served on the city's personnel board 2000-04.

The Planning and Zoning Commission chooses new chairpersons each year.

The commission comprises nine unpaid members appointed by City Council. Members serve a three-year term and may be reappointed to serve a second term.

The other members of the commission are:
  • Jason Ray;
  • Thomas Baird IV;
  • King Coltrin;
  • Jim Hansen;
  • Jay McClelland;
  • Gloria Roling; and
  • Phil Young.
The city manager and mayor serve as ex-officio members of the commission, according to the city Web site.

The Planning and Zoning Commission holds public hearings and makes recommendations on issues that include comprehensive planning, the city zoning ordinance and rezoning applications.
