A co-owner of Springfield Brewing Co. is part of a development group planning a mixed-use project adjacent to the downtown brewery.
The Springfield Planning & Zoning Commission yesterday heard a plan designating a redevelopment of vacant buildings, brought by Brewery District Lofts Redevelopment Corp. The development group includes board member Christina Chanter, who was part of the investment group that purchased SBC from Paul Mueller Co. in
late 2011.
The project calls for five vacant properties on West Walnut and West McDaniel streets to either be demolished or remodeled to make way for roughly 46,000 square feet of commercial and residential development, as well as additional space for the brewery.
The developers, who are seeking blighted status for up to 25 years of tax abatement, plan to demolish 535 and 527 W. Walnut St. for a roughly 11,350-square-foot development comprising retail, office and banquet facility space on the first floor and 28 residential one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments on the upper two floors, as well as off-street parking.
Plans call for rehabilitation of 521 W. McDaniel St. and 507 W. Walnut St. into shell space for an SBC distillery and space for expansion and event space for the brewery.
According to
Missouri corporate filings, Brewery District Lofts Redevelopment Corp. comprises board members Chanter; her husband Neil Chanter, an attorney with Strong, Garner & Bauer PC; her father Donald Babb, CEO of Citizens Memorial Healthcare in Bolivar; and her mother, Carrie Babb.[[In-content Ad]]
