National used auto parts chain Pick-n-Pull plans to hold a grand opening April 6 for its first Springfield store, 1805 N. West Bypass.
To operate its self-service retail concept, Pick-n-Pull purchases used and salvage vehicles from tow companies, private parties, auto auctions and insurance companies. More than 1,000 vehicles are on site, a company news release said, for consumers to pull parts using their own tools. The company’s website,
PickNPull.com, offers a searchable vehicle inventory, such as gently used tires, starting at $12, starters and alternators at $17, and fenders and radiators in the $30 to $40 range to start.
“We have been in the self-service auto parts business for more than 25 years operating in 30 markets across the U.S. and Canada, and we are proud to add the Springfield community to our family of stores,” Pick-n-Pull President Tom Klauer said in the release.
Klauer is scheduled to be in Springfield for Pick-n-Pull’s grand opening celebration, which is scheduled to kick off with an 8 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by events throughout the day and music by country artist Candy Coburn.
The 30-year-old company, a Rancho Cordova, Calif.-based subsidiary of metals recycler Schnitzer Steel Industries, runs roughly 60 self-service auto parts stores annually serving 5 million customers and recycling more than 325,000 vehicles, according to its website.
Portland, Ore.-based Schnitzer Steel operates nearly 60 manufacturing facilities in 16 states, Puerto Rico and western Canada, as well as seven deep water export facilities located on the coasts and in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Schnitzer Steel recorded $3.3 billion in fiscal 2012 revenues, according to
