Partners from both the Springfield and national offices of accounting firm BKD LLP competed Sept. 16 in a series of tricycle races at the company’s new headquarters at St. Louis St. and John Q. Hammons Parkway. The races raised nearly $3,000 for the American Diabetes Association; BKD has contributed more than $72,000 to the organization over the last 15 years.
The company’s new 109,000-square-foot, $21.5 million facility is the first developed in Springfield by Kansas City developer Opus Northwest. It includes several features aimed at helping the building achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Core & Shell Silver certification, including bicycle storage and showers, low-flow plumbing fixtures, energy-efficient heating and air conditions systems, a white roof, motion-sensitive lighting and special parking spaces for low-emission vehicles.
The first southwest Missouri location of EarthWise Pet, a national chain of pet supply stores, opened; Grey Oak Investments LLC relocated; and Hot Bowl by Everyday Thai LLC got its start.
