Phoenix Home Care Mental Health Division Offers Personalized Care

Posted online

Throughout its history, Phoenix Home Care and Hospice has provided customized care that enables clients to live with dignity and safety in their own homes.

For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Phoenix’s Mental Health Division offers customized services tailored for the needs of each individual. Clients served include those with learning disabilities, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome.

Customized Support
Funded through the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), this program delivers Medicaid-supported in-home care to individuals across Southwest Missouri, including Springfield, Branson, Lebanon and Joplin.

Services may include help with grooming, bathing, meal preparation and ambulation support. While some clients require hands-on assistance, others benefit from gentle reminders and routine support to maintain autonomy.

Because many people with disabilities live with loved ones, home care provides a respite for family members. This is especially important for older adults who may suffer from burnout when caring for adult children with disabilities.

“We help people live independently, and that looks different for every client,” says Greg Kelley, Senior Vice President of Operations. “Some need physical support, while others just need a structure to navigate daily life.”

New State Funding
In March 2025, Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe signed a supplemental budget bill that expanded DMH funding. This allows the state to clear its waitlist and serve more clients. Phoenix encourages families to contact their local DMH office to explore eligibility for services that may have previously been out of reach.
With these barriers lifted, Phoenix is focused on raising awareness. “Many families simply don’t know this resource exists,” Kelley explains. “We want them to know we’re here and have the capacity to help.”

A Mission of Compassion
Each client is supported by a service coordinator through the state and has a dedicated Phoenix care team who work in close partnership. Services are also available for private-pay clients who may not qualify through DMH.

The mission of Phoenix Home Care remains to provide home care services built on innovation, skill and Christ-like values of compassion, honesty and patience. The Mental Health Division is just one shining example of that mission in action, improving quality of life for individuals with disabilities and peace of mind for families.
