I read with interest your recent article (May 31-June 6 SBJ, Heard on the Street) that the philatelic window at the local Post Office was closing. Since I serve as the postmaster and usually make those decisions, it was news to me.
The recent retirement of Jim Reilly provided us an opportunity to evaluate the overall needs of our philatelic community. Serving and meeting the needs of our philatelic community is critical to our success. According to feedback from philatelists in our community, to best meet that need is to open (the philatelic window) from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday. If for some reason a philatelist cannot get to the U.S. Postal Service, we will always be happy to provide this service by mail.
As a reminder, stamps bring you face to face with gunfighters of the Old West, heroic sports legends and literature's most intriguing authors. You'll visit famous American landmarks and witness some of our country's most significant events. They're all on stamps. Best of all, stamp collecting is a hobby that's not only very affordable, it's one that will last a lifetime.
