The Springfield-based Midwest operation of Atlanta-based Guardian Pharmacy Services Inc. (NYSE: GRDN) is growing with a recently announced expansion.

Guardian Pharmacy Services purchased Wichita, Kansas-based Senior Care Pharmacy for undisclosed terms, according to a news release.

The acquisition grows the company's footprint in Kansas. Guardian Pharmacy of the Heartland, based in Springfield, is now operating two pharmacies in Kansas – one in Kansas City and Senior Care Pharmacy in Wichita. Guardian Pharmacy of the Heartland added to its portfolio of pharmacies operating in Springfield and St. Louis.

Guardian Pharmacy of the Heartland is led by Springfieldian Michael Counts, who founded what was originally Uvanta Pharmacy of Southern Missouri. Uvanta in 2016 took on the Guardian name in a partnership with the Atlanta company, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Senior Care Pharmacy will maintain its name, local leadership team and staff under the direction of Guardian Pharmacy of the Heartland.

“This acquisition marks another important milestone in our growth strategy and reflects the success Michael Counts and his team have achieved in the Midwest,” said Fred Burke, president and CEO of Guardian Pharmacy Services, in the release. “By combining their expertise and resources with the strength of the local Wichita team, we’re ensuring more residents in (long-term care) communities across Kansas receive the high-quality, personalized care that is the Guardian difference.”
