PGA Tour suspends players for participating in rival league

The PGA Tour announced the indefinite suspension of some players over their participation in the LIV Golf Invitational Series, a rival league supported by Saudi Arabia.

Commissioner Jay Monahan said the 17 PGA Tour members participating in the inaugural LIV event are in violation of the former tournament's regulations. The PGA Tour announced last month it would not grant conflicting-event releases for players interested in participating in the LIV tournament.

LIV Golf officials called the decision "vindictive" and said "this certainly is not the last word on this topic."
