Pfizer profits surprise as new product sales rise

Pfizer Inc. today reported better-than-expected results for its second quarter as newer product lines showed revenue growth.

Profits were $2 billion, or 33 cents per share, down from $2.6 billion, or 42 cents a share a year earlier. Excluding certain items, adjusted earnings were 64 cents a share, up from 56 cents.

Revenue rose 11 percent to $13.2 billion.

Analysts expected adjusted earnings of 62 cents a share and revenue of $13 billion.
