Greene County Assessor Rick Kessinger is reminding county residents that the deadline is this weekend for returning 2009 personal property and business assessment lists to his office.
Under Missouri law, all Greene County residents and business owners must declare all taxable personal and business property they own as of Jan. 1 to the assessor by March 1. Because March 1 falls on a Sunday, however, lists must be returned to Kessinger's office by Feb. 27 or postmarked by Feb. 28.
Taxable property includes motor vehicles, boats, trailers, livestock, farm machinery and business-related equipment, according to a county news release. Assessment lists are the basis for 2009 personal and property tax bills, which county residents receive in November.
Assessment lists were mailed to county residents in early January. Late penalties for not submitting them by March 1 range from $10 to $100, depending on assessed value.
Residents and business owners who did not receive an assessment list should call the Greene County Assessor's office at (417) 868-4195, or visit the office in the Greene County Historic Courthouse, 940 Boonville Ave., Room 37.[[In-content Ad]]
